Through Jordan’s immigration journey, the aim is to explore themes of identity, acceptance, and self-discovery and inspire empathy and understanding while providing a sense of empowerment for individuals facing similar challenges.
The story is inspired by my experience of moving to a new country and facing challenges as a minority, navigating feelings of different from the others and isolation, eventually finding acceptance and embracing her true identity.
Style
I looked at different illustration stories, and impressive by the focus on balancing hand-drawn textures and geometric simplicity. As usual, my favourite complementary colours are used for visual dynamic.
Story
Taking reference from the hero's journey pattern for the storytelling, the main character faced rising challenges and tension was built up til climax, released, and then comfortably resolved.
Feedback
Based on the storyboard made, I have seek for comments from friends and people with similar experiences. Most comment that the story flow is focusing too much on the bad experiences, without development on acceptance and self-discovery. Therefore, storyboard has been edited for several times.
